Test Pit 12: 22 Twyford Road (Northern Extension)

Positioned on the same lawn as Test Pit 7, Test Pit 12 was opened by the team after completing their initial excavation ahead of schedule. Situated roughly three meters further north, this pit extended our investigation deeper into the property’s back lawn.

While Test Pit 7 was located closer to the recorded site of the medieval cruck-framed cottage, Test Pit 12 stepped further back into what historically formed part of the open field behind it. Sinking this additional pit allowed us to sample a broader cross-section of the plot, comparing the soil profile and artifact density closer to the former dwelling with the agricultural ground extending to the north.
