Test Pit 11: Testing the Platform Edge (The Mere)
Test Pit 11 was situated directly north of Test Pit 10 in The Mere to further investigate the linear earthworks and platform features running through the field.
While Test Pit 10 was positioned towards the interior of one of the high-resistance “white” areas identified on our resistivity plot, it reached natural geology without encountering substantial structural remains. To test whether any potential wall footings or structural boundaries were located around the perimeter of these raised features, we placed Test Pit 11 near the platform edge.
By targeting this transition zone, our objective was to determine whether structural evidence or concentrated occupational debris had accumulated along the margins of the platform, giving us a clearer picture of how these earthworks were constructed and utilized.
